Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lenakinta'nija'peres" 16, 1971 - March 31, 1995) is also known as Selena, is an American Tejano singer. Her name is the "Queen of Tejano music" Her contribution to fashion and music helped make her one of most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the last decade of the 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her at third place in the year 2020, on their "Greatest Latino Artists List of All Time", which was based on Latin songs and Latin albums. Her attire earned her the title "Tejano Madonna". She also is among the most famous Latin artists of all time . She is believed to have helped propel the Tejano genre into the mainstream market.The youngest member of the Quintanilla family, she first appeared in the music industry as one of the members of the band Selena y Los Dinos, which also included her elder siblings A.B. Quintanilla Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she was frequently criticised for her singing Tejano music which was a predominantly male-dominated genre. She was also refused performances in Texas venues. However, her popularity grew following her win of the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987. She won nine times consecutively. She signed with EMI Latin in 1989 and released her debut album, self-titled the following year.
